How to Create a Flower Bar
Flower Bar Supplies
You only need a few supplies to create a flower bar! And the great thing is you can use these supplies over and over to host flower bars at different events.
- Flower Containers: I chose these beautiful metal buckets from Amazon. It’s a great prince for a pack of 6 (the minimum number of buckets you’ll need).
- Floral Shears: I recommend these cute pink shears from Amazon. They’re a great price and will make it easy for your guests to trim their bouquet stems.
- Bouquet Bags: This set of bags was perfect because it also included ribbon as a finishing touch.
- Flower Bar Sign: So many options but I chose this classic design that could work for multiple occasions.
- Table Set Up: Any pop-up table and tablecloth will work. I do wish I had done a pretty fabric tablecloth with tassels like this one for a more elevated look.
- Additional Decor: Get creative! Add a little flowy gauze fabric (here) or even a few faux flowers for decoration. Additional deco is by no means required but it’s always fun to personalize it.
Where to Buy Flowers for a Flower Bar?
I highly recommend Trader Joe’s as your best local option for beautiful and affordable flowers. They also offer filler flowers and greenery to truly help create a stunning bouquet.
Some people love to head to the flower market in DTLA but if you’re short on time and looking to simplify things, I can not recommend Trader Joe’s enough!
*PRO TIP: I would head to Trader Joe’s at least 1-2 days ahead of your event to ensure you’re able to get enough of the flowers you want and need. Early morning is best since they typically sell out by the end of the day.
How Many Flowers Do I Need?
For each guest, you’ll want to account for about 2-3 main flowers, 2-3 filler flowers (think smaller flowers that accent the main flowers), and 2+ stems of greenery.
What Kind of Flowers Should I Buy?
This will be somewhat dependent on where you live and the season but I do have a few tips!
Roses are usually a safe bet since they come in a variety of colors to match your party theme and sell in bundles of 10-12 for about $10.
Baby’s breath is also a great filler option because it highlights main feature flowers really well, makes a bouquet look full and is super affordable!
What Types of Parties Work for Flower Bars?
There are so many different parties and celebrations that are perfect for a flower bar! Honestly, it’s harder to think of ideas of parties that won’t work.
Consider adding a flower bar to these parties:
- Birthday Party
- Wedding Shower
- Bridal Shower
- Baby Shower
- Graduation Party
- Tea Party
- Mother’s Day Celebration
- Bachelorette Party
Is It Really Cheaper to DIY a Flower Bar?
Honestly, so many DIYs these days end up costing you more than just purchasing the actual product but I can wholeheartedly say that a DIY flower bar is significantly cheaper than trying to hire a company or ordering a kit online.
